Saleyards Project – March 2026

The March Yea & District Memorial Hospital (YDMH) Saleyards Program welcomed our local farming community to the Yea Saleyards for another morning of free, farmer-focused health checks and support services. Following recent rains across the district, there was a noticeable tinge of green returning to the landscape, lifting spirits and bringing a sense of optimism among producers attending the cattle sale.

This month’s program featured free diabetes screening and education, delivered by YDMH Diabetes Educator Kerrie. Farmers and saleyards visitors were encouraged to “check their sugar while they check the stock,” with several people taking the opportunity to learn more about diabetes prevention, blood glucose monitoring, and healthy lifestyle choices.

The health hub also welcomed several valued community partners. Sarah from Agriculture Victoria provided practical information and support for farmers navigating seasonal challenges. Carl from AgBiz Assist was on hand to discuss business resilience and financial wellbeing, while Tammie from Murrindindi Shire connected community members with local services and council initiatives.

Set among the busy cattle sale, the program continues to demonstrate the value of delivering healthcare where farmers already gather.

By bringing services directly to the Yea Saleyards, the YDMH Saleyards Program improves access to health information, early screening, and community support for rural residents who might otherwise delay seeking care.
