The YDMH Saleyards Program continued to deliver valuable health and wellbeing support to the local farming community in February, with strong engagement and collaboration from health and government partners.
This month, we welcomed the Southern Skin Cancer Clinic, with Katrina and Emma generously offering free skin cancer checks onsite. This service was extremely well received by saleyards attendees, providing convenient access to early detection and preventative care for famers and local who may otherwise delay or miss routine skin checks. The presence of the clinic highlighted the importance of proactive health care within rural setting. The airconditioned Murrindindi Health Van was a welcoming addition to the day.
Ongoing bushfire recovery support remained a key focus. Representatives form Murrindindi and Mitchell Shire Councils – Donna, Casey and Kim – were present to provide information, guidance and referrals for community members still navigating recovery pathways. Their continued involvement reinforced the importance of local government support in long-term recovery efforts. A big thankyou to both Shire Councils for picking up the bill for a ‘Free Hamburger and Drink’, for those having their skin checked.
Victoria Agriculture staff Barad, Jane and Emmy Lou also attended, offering practical advice and updates related to agricultural bushfire recovery. Their engagement allowed for meaningful conversations with producers about current challenges and available supports.
Overall, the February YDMH Saleyards Program demonstrated the value of coordinated, place-based services in supporting the health, recovery and resilience of our farming community.
