Yea and District now offers access to virtual medical services for non-life-threatening emergencies through the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) based at Northern Health. Endorsed by our local GPs, the VVED supplements Hospital-based care out of hours and aims to ensure that the community always has access to safe, high-quality care as close to home as possible.
How does it work?
The staff at YDMH use telehealth equipment to register you with VVED. You will be placed in a virtual waiting room to await your time with the Doctor just as you would if visiting your GP. Our nursing staff will assist with your assessment and will provide information to the VVED on your behalf. You will then be connected directly with specialist doctors and nursing practitioners via a video call. They will provide you and our nursing staff with a course of action to meet your individual health needs.
What kind of medical help can I get?
• You will be assessed by a Doctor who can organise tests or prescriptions if required
• The Doctor may provide self-care advice and suggest a GP follow up.
• If your condition requires face to face examination of intervention you may be transferred to the Northern Hospitals Emergency Department.
Can VVED provide assistance for acute Mental Health Conditions?
Unfortunately VVED can not accept referrals for acute mental health conditions, psychiatric conditions or alcohol and other drug intoxication. For these services, please contact GV Area Mental Health Service – Assessment Response Team (03) 58322111 or Seymour Community Mental Health (03) 5735 0333
