Board of Directors

Mr Ian Marshman AM
Board Chair

Ian still spends some time in Melbourne, but is mostly at Limestone where he runs a small beef farm with his wife. He has a strong background in strategy, risk management and reporting and corporate governance.

During his 40 year career Ian has previously served on two metropolitan hospital boards, is Chair, Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics Ltd, and past Chair of Headspace Youth Mental Foundation.

Locally Ian is Deputy Chair of the Yea Water Discovery Centre Inc. and the community bank Murrindindi Community Enterprises Ltd and an active member of the Limestone Fire Brigade. Ian has served as director since 2017 and been Chair since 2019.

Mr Gary Pollard
Finance, Audit & Risk Committee Chair

Gary, from Yea, has worked as a community pharmacist for over 40 years and has been, and still is involved in many community groups.

Gary is the Chair of the Finance Committee, and also has strengths in audit and risk management, community services and clinical governance. Gary is also the president of the Yea Golf Club.

Ms Lisa Somerville
Clinical Governance Chair

Lisa is a Health and Community Services Executive with demonstrated contemporary and visionary leadership across the health and social sectors. Lisa has held senior leadership roles across health services and not-for-profit in Victoria. She has a strong interest in equity of experience and outcomes for all Victorians in their health and social care journeys. Her areas of expertise include disability and aged care quality governance, strategy setting, research, evaluation, project and change management, and operational leadership of small and large teams in complex environments.

Lisa has served as a board director of Yea District Memorial Hospital since 2021 and has chaired the Clinical Governance Committee since 2022.

Ms Teresa Smith
Non-Executive Director | Strategic Marketing Leader

Teresa Smith is an experienced Non-Executive Director and marketing executive with a track record of driving brand growth and commercial success across retail, education, and healthcare. She has shaped leading brands including Country Road, Bunnings, NIKE, Kmart, and Reece, leveraging deep consumer insights and best-practice marketing strategies.

Teresa contributes her expertise to boards such as Toys R Us (ASX:TOY), Yea & District Memorial Hospital, and Urban Camp, providing strategic oversight in governance, marketing, and stakeholder engagement. As founder of BExceptional, she advises businesses on strategy and digital innovation.

With over two decades of leadership experience, Teresa excels in building high-performance teams, navigating complex stakeholder environments, and driving sustainable business growth. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing) from RMIT and has completed executive programmes in leadership and strategic optimisation.

Ms Kerry Stubbings

Kerry has extensive experience working in senior executive roles in Victorian Local Government, State Government and the not-for-profit sector. Her responsibilities have included the planning and delivery of diverse community and primary health services, strategic planning, organisational development, stakeholder engagement and good governance. Over the past 6 years Kerry has been working as a facilitator and organisational coach running leadership development programs and service review projects.

Kerry lives in Northcote and has strong family connections within the Yea and Flowerdale community. She has a special interest in promoting community health and wellbeing, social justice, and ensuring access to good quality early years, youth and aged care services.

Kerry is an experienced Board Director in the Victorian health and community housing sectors and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Dr Abhishek (Abhi) Verma

Dr Abhishek (Abhi) Verma is an experienced medical practitioner, medical regulator, and non-executive director. In addition to his Board role at YDMH, Abhi currently serves as director on the Board of Alfred Health, is a director of a private health insurance company (Peoplecare Health Limited) and presently serves as a member of the Victorian Medical Board. Abhi was appointed to this role by the State Minister for Health in 2017, and he is the the youngest person ever appointed to the Victorian Medical Board since the inception of the National Registration scheme. Abhi previously served on the Board of Edenhope & District Memorial Hospital, where he chaired the Clinical Governance Committee.

Abhi's expertise lies in his professional experience as an actively practicing doctor, having been awarded both the prestigious Victorian GP of the Year and Australian GP of the Year awards in 2022. Abhi's expertise also extends to the clinical and corporate governance of health service entities. Abhi is also a member of the Clinical Governance Committee at YDMH, and Chairs the Audit Committee at Alfred Health.

Mr Stuart Bett

Principal of Williams Hunt & Bett, Lawyers and Conveyancers with offices in Yea, Mansfield and Alexandra. He has practised law for 40 years in commercial legal practices here and in Melbourne, and as a corporate litigation lawyer. Stuart has been a Council Member of Trinity College within the University of Melbourne and is a Trustee of the Colin Hicks Caldwell Philanthropic Trust, distributing income to both Trinity College and the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery.

He is a Trustee of the Diocese of Wangaratta and a Lay Canon of Holy Trinity Cathedral. Stuart is a member of the Council of the Mansfield Anglican Parish and the Warden of St Peter’s, Jamieson. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Beolite Village in Mansfield, and he is a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Mansfield.

His grandfather, Mr Arthur Bett MBE became a Life Governor of the Yea and District Memorial Hospital in 1964

Renee Chmielewski

DipAppSci (Nursing), BN, CCCN, GDVET, MT&D, GCBA, GAICD.
Renee is currently the Director Partnerships, Clinical Education and Planning at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Prior to this, Renee was the Director Consumer Engagement and Volunteer Services at Austin Health.

A Registered Nurse for over 35 years, Renee also holds qualifications in Critical Care Nursing, Vocational Education and Training, and Business Administration. She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Renee has extensive experience of working in consumer engagement and patient centred care, clinical governance, strategic and business planning, risk management, and clinical education and training. She is passionate about ensuring the patient and carer experience is a positive one and about improving outcomes for patients. Renee is also a member of the Clinical Governance Committee.

Milka Underhill

Milka is an extensively experienced CA/CPA finance executive and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Milka has worked with iconic organisations such as Coles and Australia Post, where she had significant responsibilities for sustaining service delivery to regional and rural Australian communities.

Milka is experienced in the health and aged care sector, currently as Chief Financial Officer for Vasey RSL Care and was a previous Board member and Chair of the Finance, Audit & Risk Management Committee for Finncare Inc. Milka brings deep experience in end-to-end financial management and governance for customer-centric organisations with geographically dispersed operations, shared services and complex customer-facing IT infrastructure. Milka enjoys living on acreage and resides part-time within Murrindindi Shire.
