Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) Project

Yea & District Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the launch of the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) Project commencing June 10, 2026. YDMH along with four other rural hospitals are excited to be a part of the state-funded VVED in a trial that will see the virtual admission of patients into these hospitals over a 12-month period.

This exciting initiative means that YDMH can facilitate the admission of patients even when there is no doctor available onsite. As a result, our ability to provide access to healthcare closer to home for our local community will be strengthened.

Through VVED, and our Urgent Care Centre (UCC) patients who require hospital admission and meet the admission criteria will now be able to be admitted directly into YDMH, helping patients receive care locally wherever clinically appropriate.

This means:
Faster access to care
Reduced need for transfers out of the region
More support for patients and families close to home
Improved continuity of care within our community

This project represents another important step toward building a stronger, more sustainable rural health services for the people of Murrindindi Shire.
